# Join and take part in groups

> Find groups, join or leave them, chat with members and follow their events.

A **group** is a community's home on GatherEasy: a running club, a book club, a meetup series, a venue's programme. Groups have members, a calendar of events, a group chat and a page anyone can visit.

## Find a group

- **Explore → Groups** lists groups, including **Suggested Groups**. Use the search button to find one by name.
- An event page shows the group that runs it under the title ("By _group_"). Choose the name to open the group.
- Someone can share a group's link with you.

A group page shows the group's members, city and rating. The rating averages attendee feedback on the events the group has hosted, with the number of ratings.

## Join a group

Open the group and choose **Join group**. What happens next depends on the group:

- **Public** and **Unlisted** groups: you join straight away. Some groups review new members first. Your request waits until a manager approves it.
- **Invite Only** groups: you can only join with an invitation from the group's managers. Invitations arrive as notifications.

Members get notified when the group publishes a new event.

## Group sections

Every member sees these tabs:

- **About**: what the group is about.
- **Events**: the group's calendar of upcoming and past events, as a list or a calendar. See [The group calendar](https://help.gathereasy.rsvp/groups/group-calendar.md).
- **Members**: who's in the group and their role.

## Group chat

Members can choose **Group chat** on the group page to talk to everyone in the group. See [Chats](https://help.gathereasy.rsvp/social/chats.md).

## Share a group

Use the share button on the group page to share it, or **Copy group link**.

## Leave a group

Open the group and choose **Leave group**. If you're the group's owner, you need to [transfer ownership](https://help.gathereasy.rsvp/groups/create-and-manage.md#transfer-ownership) before you can leave.

## Roles

| Role          | What they can do                                                                              |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Owner**     | Everything, including payments, deleting the group and transferring ownership. One per group. |
| **Admin**     | Manage the group's settings, members, payments and events.                                    |
| **Organiser** | Create and manage the group's events.                                                         |
| **Member**    | Join events, take part in the group chat and see the group's events and members.              |
