# VS Code, Cursor and other MCP clients

> Connect GatherEasy to GitHub Copilot in VS Code, Cursor, or any client that supports remote MCP servers.

Source: https://help.gathereasy.rsvp/ai-assistants/other-clients/

GatherEasy works with any MCP client that supports **remote servers over Streamable HTTP** with **OAuth sign-in**. The server address is:

```
https://gathereasy.rsvp/api/mcp
```

<Tabs syncKey="client">
<TabItem label="VS Code (Copilot)">

Create or open `.vscode/mcp.json` in your workspace, or run **MCP: Open User Configuration** from the Command Palette to add it for every workspace, and add:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "gathereasy": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://gathereasy.rsvp/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

Choose **Start** above the server entry. VS Code asks to sign in to GatherEasy. Allow it, sign in in the browser and choose **Allow access**. Then use GatherEasy from Copilot Chat in **Agent** mode.

You can also run **MCP: Add Server** from the Command Palette, choose **HTTP** and paste the URL.

<TabItem label="Cursor">

Open **Cursor Settings → MCP → Add new MCP server**, or edit `~/.cursor/mcp.json`, and add:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gathereasy": {
      "url": "https://gathereasy.rsvp/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

In **Cursor Settings → MCP**, GatherEasy shows that it needs you to sign in. Choose it to open the GatherEasy sign-in page, then choose **Allow access**.

Most clients that accept an `mcpServers` configuration use something like:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gathereasy": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://gathereasy.rsvp/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

The exact key names vary between clients (`url`, `serverUrl` or `httpUrl`, and `http` or `streamable-http`). Check your client's documentation for "remote MCP server".

</TabItem>
</Tabs>

## What your client needs to support

To sign in, the client must support MCP's standard OAuth flow:

- **dynamic client registration**, so it registers itself with GatherEasy without a client ID or secret,
- **PKCE (S256)**,
- **resource indicators**.

To show GatherEasy's interactive panel, it also needs the **MCP Apps** extension. Clients without it get the same results as text.

Without sign-in support, a client can still use public discovery, such as searching events and venues, but nothing that needs your account.

## Clients that only run local servers

If your client can only start local (stdio) MCP servers, use the open-source `mcp-remote` bridge, which handles the browser sign-in for you. You need [Node.js](https://nodejs.org) installed:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gathereasy": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://gathereasy.rsvp/api/mcp"]
    }
  }
}
```

<Aside type="caution">
  Only connect GatherEasy to clients you trust. A connected client can act on
  your account within the permissions you approve.
</Aside>

## Prompts and resources

Besides tools, GatherEasy offers:

- **Prompts**: ready-made starting points. See [Ready-made prompts](https://help.gathereasy.rsvp/ai-assistants/what-you-can-do.md#ready-made-prompts).
- **Resources** your client can attach to a conversation: `gathereasy://events/{event_id}`, `gathereasy://events/{event_id}/calendar.ics`, `gathereasy://venues/{venue_id}` and `gathereasy://groups/{group_id}`. Event, group and venue IDs autocomplete from your own events and groups first.
